Origami Chair

Medium: 4'x8' Cardboard

Solo Project Oct 2013

It is a project that chanllenges the limit. With the minimum amount of material provided - one sheet of 4' by 8' cardboard, the project is to design and construct a chair that holds all 18 people in the class for at least 30 seconds each with their feet off the ground. This origami chair is designed from observation and assimulation of more than 20 different kind of chairs. It is constructed with three big pieces and three small triangle beams underneath.

It sucessfully held all people from lightest 100 lbs to heaviest 450 lbs. (Yes it did it!). And it scored for high comfort level due to its egronomic seat and back seat angle. With the laser cut pattern, it can be reproduced quickly. It can be used in the public places and events that chairs need to be recycled after use, or in an impoverished area to provide an inexpensive chair which is easy and fast to produce, transport, and construct/deconstruct.
