Into the Harbor
Inspired by one of my favorite artists Paul Klee's whimsy and witty paintings, I am experimenting with the possibility of 3D modeling to turn the the experience of viewing painting or paintings in a gallery or museum into a interactive experiences.
Process
Medium: Maya, Zbrush, V-ray, Photoshop
Part 1, Dec 2014
Inspired by Surrealism painter Paul Klee's whimsy and witty paintings, the work is experimenting with the possibility of 3D modeling and interactive techniques.
Harbor is a place that witnesses the thriving and depression of a city. At same time, it is a melting pot of all kinds of people and events. By putting Klee's paintings - The Phantom's Oath, Mask of Fear, The Tightrope Walker and She Ballows into the painting The Harbor, this digital interpretation of paintings becomes a miniature that provides another angle to look at the real world.
Into the Harbor II - Interactive Experience
Medium: Unity3D, MaKey MaKey, Containter, Foil, Water
Part 2, Jan 2015
In the second part of the project, I made an interactive experience through Unity3D. Three characters - Mask of Fear, The Tightrope Walker and She Ballows are "enemies" running randomly in the maze. If the character "The phatom's oath" touches any of them, he will go back to the start point.
The virtual world is only controlled by the physical container. The container with water serves like a metaphor of the "harbor". When participant rotates the container, the platform will rotate accordingly, and the "Phantom of Oath" moves with the direction of tilt.
